Unagitei Tomoei is an unagi specialty restaurant set in a standalone building in Kazamatsuri, Odawara, serving rare blue unagi. Its unaju features a generous 330g eel that almost covers the rice completely, so tender that it gently parts at the touch of chopsticks, and is highly praised for its seamless unity with the secret sauce that holds back sweetness to highlight the eel's natural savor. The freshly prepared grilled eel liver (kimoyaki), available in limited quantities, is large, thick, free of any unpleasant odor, and popular served either with sauce or wasabi. Adding the moist, lightly steamed shirayaki (unseasoned grilled eel) or a dashi-rich kimosui (eel liver soup) expands the flavor profile even further. Refill / second helping of rice and sauce is free, making it easy to tailor the balance with the eel to your taste. Tatami seating (zashiki) and private room on the second floor offer serene views of lush mountain greenery through the windows. Combined with the attentive care of the okami and staff, it makes for an ideal stop on the Hakone route or a special family meal.

Notes
[ Thoughts of Unagitei Tomoei ] Because we use a secret sauce strictly guarded within our establishment and a limited quantity of carefully selected eel, we cannot operate other branches, sister stores, affiliated locations, or franchised locations. For this reason, we deeply regret that customers must travel all the way to Odawara at the entrance to Hakone and wait for a table, but at the same time, we are truly and wholeheartedly grateful. Therefore, all of our staff are devoted to serving you with all our hearts and utmost sincerity in order to live up to your expectations. While there may be shortcomings, we ask for your warm understanding, patience, and guidance. We sincerely hope to cultivate long-lasting relationships with each and every customer, and we look forward to your continued patronage. For standard visits, we do not accept reservations specifying seat arrival times, but we accept phone reservations to reserve eel, freshly cut liver, etc., starting 2 months in advance. Furthermore, upon arriving at the restaurant, please ensure your entire party is present before registering. Although limited to specific days and seats, we have started accepting reservations specifying times (10:00–, 12:00–, 14:00–) for a special Omakase (chef's choice) — The chef decides the dishes. course that includes softshell turtle. Please make reservations via OMAKASE.
