Welcoming shrine visitors with the nostalgic charm of an Edo-period teahouse in a corner of Okage Yokocho, FUKUSUKE has long been cherished as a hallmark of Ise udon since opening in 1993. The famous Ise udon features extra-thick, tender, and chewy noodles paired with an inky-black sweet and savory tamari soy sauce sauce—a distinctive Ise specialty. While those accustomed to firm Sanuki udon may be surprised at first, many find themselves completely won over as they eat. The Tsukimi version, topped with a raw egg, mellows out the sauce and is a classic choice for travelers, reminiscent of tamago kake gohan (raw egg on rice). Guests can also enjoy limited-quantity handmade noodles, chilled udon in summer, and toppings like grated yam (tororo) or mekabu seaweed. With a system where you pay upfront, receive a wooden number tag, and wait at your seat, dishes are served quickly even when there is a line, keeping the turnover efficient. Breezes pass through the open tatami seating (zashiki) and bench areas, and the entirely non-smoking venue makes it easy to visit with children, ideal for a food break between shrine visits.
