The pleasure of choosing white or black dashi: a clear bowl topped with shrimp and pork wontons

  • Two kinds of wontons: shrimp and pork
  • Choice between white dashi and black dashi
  • Popular thick-cut char siu
  • Noodles available in thin or flat wavy style
  • Great for solo lunch visits
  • Popular shop with inevitable queues
  • 11-seat U-shaped counter
  • Stylish space with black-and-white design

Just a short walk from Ikejiri-Ohashi Station, Yakumo catches the eye with its stylish black-and-white facade, well known for wonton noodles served in clear chintan broth. The signature dish is the special wonton noodles. The white soy sauce-based white dashi is light yet deeply infused with umami flavors from dashi, prompting many diners to drink every last drop of broth. The dark soy sauce-based black dashi highlights deep richness with dried sardines and bonito flakes. Guests can also select a mix of both broths, or switch from medium-thin straight noodles to flat wavy noodles, offering the fun of finding your ideal bowl on every visit. The accompaniments are also well regarded for their craftsmanship, such as thick-cut, fragrantly roasted char siu and thick, crunchy menma bamboo shoots. The shop features an 11-seat U-shaped counter, completely non-smoking with spacious seating intervals, drawing many solo female guests and office workers taking lunch breaks. Because lines often form even before opening, it is best to visit with plenty of time to spare.
