A few minutes' walk from Shimokitazawa Station, Former Yam Residence Shimokita-so serves monthly creative keema curries in a retro space featuring reclaimed wood and exposed beams. Their combination plates, such as all-in-one or half-and-half servings of three keema curries whose mix of chicken, pork, or beef-and-pork changes every month, are renowned for how each curry shows an entirely different spice profile with a vibrant appearance. The signature style layers spices over Japanese ingredients like bonito dashi (Japanese soup stock) and miso. Pouring the flavor-changing Yam Soup halfway through transforms the dish into something mild and soothing, reminiscent of dashi-infused ochazuke. Guests can choose from three types of rice: brown rice, jasmine rice, or turmeric rice, and many diners consult the staff about the best pairing. With 4 counter seats and 4 tables seating a total of 12 guests, all seats are non-smoking. Thanks to numbered tickets and smartphone waiting registration, guests can pleasantly stroll around town while waiting for their turn. Lunch offers great satisfaction, allowing you to enjoy multiple curries in the ¥1,000 range.
