Known for chicken soup curry available with or without bones, Tokyo Dominica is a beloved spot in a basement just a short walk from Shinjuku-sanchome Station. Down a narrow staircase lies a dimly lit, Asian retro space where you can focus on your curry as if in a secret hideout. You can choose from 5 soup bases, including tomato-based, tonkotsu-based, and soy milk-based, with 10 levels of spiciness plus the option to add coconut powder for sweetness. The smooth soup layers dozens of spices with Japanese-style kombu and bonito dashi, and is filled with deep-fried vegetables such as potato, burdock root, and pumpkin, along with tender, falling-apart chicken. Limited-quantity toppings like simmered pork belly and zangi (fried chicken) are also popular, and orders are placed via a QR code at the table where you can specify your preferences in detail. The good value of enjoying an authentic bowl starting from the ¥1,000 range is also well received. All 20 seats, including counter seats, are non-smoking, and the restaurant closes once the soup sells out.
