Sumitei is a long-established local Chinese diner founded in 1964, located about a 3-minute walk from Shimokitazawa Station. The signature dish is a reddish-pink fried rice, getting its distinctive hue as the roast pork dyed with red food coloring mixes into the rice; with a modest saltiness, the flavor of the roast pork and the aroma of the oil keep diners coming back for endless bites. The Edokko ramen pairs a clear chicken bone soy sauce broth with thin, straight noodles, offering a gentle, nostalgic flavor. Gyoza seasoned with garlic and garlic chives, along with mildly spicy homemade Lahoucai that provides a great flavor twist, are also staples. Over the seasoned red counter, the clatter of woks and the sounds of draining noodles create a theater-like atmosphere. The first floor features counter and table seats, while the second floor has 40 seats of tatami seating (zashiki). It is easy to visit whether dining alone, with friends, or with family. The entire restaurant is non-smoking, and with a budget around ¥1,000, it is an accessible spot to drop by.
