Cafe FREUNDLIEB is a cafe occupying the former Kobe Union Church building, renovated in 1999. The moment you open the door, the atmosphere transforms under soaring ceilings exceeding 10 meters, arched windows, and vibrant stained glass. As a remnant of its chapel past, sounds echo gently, naturally keeping conversations hushed. Tables are generously spaced, allowing time to pass at a leisurely pace. The signature offering is a sandwich packed with homemade roast beef and plenty of vegetables, accented by a tangy dressing. Other hearty options include BLT and clubhouse sandwiches made with whole wheat bread and homemade mayonnaise, while the buttery, crispy pies and cakes often sell out by the afternoon. The small cookies served alongside water upon taking a seat are also well-loved, and many visitors praise the value of the weekday-only morning and lunch menus.
