Set inside the Arai Building, a Registered Tangible Cultural Property and Taisho-era Western-style structure on a Kitahama street corner, is Gokan Kitahama Honkan. In the second-floor salon, classical music plays softly amidst high ceilings, large windows, plaster walls, and antique furnishings. Guests enjoy a delightful experience as a trolley laden with actual cakes is brought to the table, allowing them to choose their dessert while listening to descriptions from the staff. The signature item is the "Okome no Junnama Rouleau," a roll cake made with rice flour sponge wrapped around fresh cream and black soybeans, popular for its moist yet light mouthfeel. Other offerings include a rich cheesecake accented with raisins at the bottom, and limited-edition sweets featuring seasonal fruits such as peaches and muscat grapes. Baked goods like the black soybean madeleine "Eemon" are also staple selections for gifts. The budget is in the ¥2,000 range. The establishment is entirely non-smoking and offers sofa seats as well as a private room accommodating up to 6 people, making it an ideal stop for tea with friends or a restful break while exploring historic architecture.
