Just a few minutes' walk from Kokusai Center Station, coffee house KAKO, founded in 1972, is an iconic traditional cafe representing Nagoya's morning service culture. The signature Chantilly Rouge Special features lightly toasted thin-sliced bread topped with mildly sweet whole red bean paste, whipped cream, and 4 daily homemade confitures, accented by the tartness and subtle bitterness of marmalade made with recipes preserved since its founding. Known as an early pioneer of in-house coffee roasting in Nagoya, its coffee—with mild bitterness and acidity—pairs wonderfully with the toast. Guests who prefer not to have red bean paste can also choose Chantilly without it. Decorated with stained glass and antique accents alongside red sofas, the interior has only 10 counter seats and 8 table seats, operating continuously from 07:00 until evening. Regulars and solo guests naturally blend together in this space, and rusks made with their homemade jams are also available for takeout.
