Known as the originator of Fried Momiji, Momijidou Nibanya is a Japanese confectionery founded in 1912, situated amid the bustle of the Omotesando Shopping Street that leads to Itsukushima Shrine. Its signature offering is a freshly fried, piping-hot skewer made to order. With crispy batter and warm, smooth red bean paste that has a clean, non-cloying sweetness, guests love that they can easily eat multiple skewers, complemented by varied flavor choices such as melting cheese and refreshing Setouchi lemon. Because orders are placed at a ticket vending machine and called by number ticket, the queue moves briskly. Another treat while waiting is watching the momiji manju baking and frying process through the glass. At the back of the store is an air-conditioned 30-seat eat-in space offering self-service tea and water, making it an ideal rest stop on the way to or from shrine visits.
