Established in 1987, Takeya is a street-level restaurant and izakaya in Yushima, just a few minutes' walk from Ochanomizu Station. Its signature shrimp tempura curry udon pairs a mild, creamy soup made with milk and Western-style broth with firm, thin-cut noodles and freshly fried baby shrimp tempura; finishing with curry zosui (rice porridge) by dropping white rice into the leftover soup is the classic routine. Tracing its roots to Miyazaki handmade udon, the smooth, thin noodles also shine in cold dipping styles and chilled Japanese-style sesame soymilk dandan noodles. The spacious 65 seats, mainly table seats, are entirely non-smoking and barrier-free, making it comfortable for families with children. The shop has two distinct faces: a quick-service lunchtime spot easy for solo diners, and an evening venue where guests can enjoy à la carte dishes with sake before wrapping up with udon.
