About a 5-minute walk from Ichigaya Station, Otsukaya quietly operates on the first floor of a building. Carrying on the lineage of a popular miso ramen shop that once operated multiple branches, this specialty shop has focused solely on spicy miso ramen since 2015. The ticket machine cleanly offers only spicy miso ramen and optional toppings. The bowl served features an intensely rich miso soup so thick it resembles a starchy sauce or mazesoba. Curly, chewy extra-thick noodles lift the garlic-scented soup, and shaking on tabletop seasonings like sansho pepper, vinegar, or curry powder ensures you never get bored until the very last bite. Pouring the remaining soup over a small rice to make oimeshi is also a classic custom, and guests appreciate getting completely full for around ¥1,000. With only 7 counter seats, solo operation by the owner, and completely non-smoking seating, it is a place you will want to line up for on a solo lunch or whenever you need stamina.
