Tucked away in a basement in Minami-Aoyama, Chuka Fu Katei Ryori Fumin is a cozy, hideaway-style restaurant founded in 1971 that has maintained a devoted following for over half a century with its home-style Chinese cooking. Signature dishes include natto fried rice (widely known as its birthplace), brothless scallion wontons fragrant with scallion oil and shredded scallions, and the simmered pork with umeboshi set meal (teishoku), braised in sweet soy sauce broth with the acidity of umeboshi—all offering a gentle, rounded, and nourishing flavor. The thick-cut homemade zha cai placed on the tables is an ideal pairing for drinks, and is also available for purchase to take home.
