Dried sardine aroma with a touch of yuzu, a nostalgic Showa-era bowl overflowing with noodles

  • Yuzu-infused dried sardine shoyu
  • Acclaimed thick-cut chashu
  • Popular separate-plate menma
  • Regular portions as big as large servings
  • Satisfying lunch under ¥1,000
  • Welcoming for solo diners
  • 11 counter seats available
  • Nostalgic Showa-era interior

Operating near Funabashi City Hall since 1975, Akasaka Ajiichi's signature dish is chuka soba featuring a dried sardine shoyu soup subtly infused with the refreshing scent of yuzu. The rich, slightly bitter flavor of the dried sardines combined with the firm, toothsome texture of the wavy medium-thick noodles keeps devoted fans coming back. Even a regular serving contains so many noodles it nearly spills over the bowl; bowls topped with thick, deeply savory chashu or paired with crunchy menma served on a separate plate are also widely popular. Lunch is priced comfortably under ¥1,000, and although long lines form at midday, turnover is fast and bowls arrive quickly, keeping wait times short. Featuring 11 counter seats and table seating, the fully non-smoking interior retains its retro Showa atmosphere, offering an inviting space whether dining solo or with family.
