Kyoudo Shusakana Aomoriya, a one-minute walk from the west exit of Ikebukuro Station, is known for its Aomori hassun, a signature dish featuring around seven small plates of Aomori delicacies served in small portions. The most popular dish is said to be the smoked mackerel potato salad, a dish fragrant with grain mustard that is enjoyed on top of Nambu senbei crackers. The menu is rich with regional dishes, including horse sashimi topped with lean meat and mane meat, and grilled surume squid (gappari-yaki), which pair well with a comparative tasting of Aomori's local sake, led by Denshu. Down the stairs in the basement, Nebuta and Kingyo Nebuta floats hang overhead, and the seating comes in a variety of styles, from a U-shaped counter to fully private rooms with horigotatsu (sunken table seating). With up to 130 seats, the restaurant can accommodate private hire for groups of 20 or more, making it a convenient venue for banquets and welcome or farewell parties. Plans with all-you-can-drink are said to be a good value, and the restaurant also suits two people looking to drink quietly at the counter.
