Located in Daimyo, Fukuoka, Kamakiri Udon buzzes with an energy reminiscent of a casual public tavern rather than a typical udon shop. Its signature dish is sudachi kake udon, combining a clear dashi (Japanese soup stock) of bonito flakes and kombu with the bright acidity of sudachi citrus, allowing guests to enjoy throughout the entire year a dish typically limited to summer. The homemade noodles, crafted from Itoshima wheat, are slender yet offer a smooth slip and a pleasant chew. A classic routine is to enjoy a drink with an assorted tempura platter of shrimp and Japanese whiting or a thick-cut Unzen ham cutlet before finishing off with udon. Ordering a side dish even comes with a complimentary glass of beer—a well-known house specialty. Diners also appreciate customizing their bowls with the shrimp-infused tempura flakes on the table. Open continuously from 11:30 into the night, its 18 seats—including counter seats—operate under a no reservations policy, so visiting outside peak hours is recommended. The venue is completely non-smoking, supports cashless payments, and makes solo diners feel right at home.
