Standing between Hiroo Station and Ebisu Station, Chuka Kosai JASMINE Hiroo Main Store has been loved since opening in 2011 for its signature yodare chicken. Moist steamed chicken is coated in a chili oil infused with 15 spices and a sweet-and-sour black vinegar sauce, layering sourness, spiciness, and umami. The menu is filled with dishes meant to be shared, including mapo tofu with the numbing kick of Sichuan pepper, aged black vinegar sweet and sour pork with the enjoyable texture of root vegetables, and juicy grilled gyoza and dim sum – with the house custom being to eat the gyoza with the yodare chicken sauce. The attentive hospitality leaves an impression, from the homemade carrot-based vegetable juice served before the meal to the lightly sweetened almond tofu. The calm, modern interior doesn't feel like a typical Chinese restaurant, and all 32 seats are non-smoking. With counter seats and sofa seating available, it's versatile for meals with friends or solo lunches, and it's also popular for its good-value lunch.
