Located just a short walk from Azabu-Juban Station on a quiet side street, Takishita has been grilling fish over binchotan charcoal at its counter since opening in 2001. Its signature dish is the grilled black snapper with yuzu, made from thick fillets slowly cooked over charcoal until the skin is crisp and the flesh tender, layering the fragrance of yuzu with the sweetness of the fish's fat—a dish long favored by regulars. Many diners choose the two-way plate paired with grilled silver cod in saikyo miso, and the well-cooked akou snapper grilled with saikyo miso and kelp is also highly regarded. Rice, plenty of grated daikon, and house-made furikake are all available for unlimited refills, allowing guests to eat their fill alongside the grilled fish—a combination that draws long queues at lunchtime. In the evening, the chef selects and grills the fish himself, and guests can enjoy sashimi and simmered dishes paired with sake or wine in an atmosphere reminiscent of a kappo restaurant. The calm Japanese interior, entirely non-smoking, includes counter seating as well as horigotatsu (sunken table seating), making it suitable for both solo lunches and dates.
