Daigokuden Honpo Rokkaku Store is a Japanese confectionery shop situated along Rokkaku-dori in a traditional Kyo-machiya townhouse built in 1865, featuring an attached sweet parlor that overlooks a serene courtyard garden. Its signature dessert, Kohaku Nagashi, features agar jelly cooked to the ultimate softness and topped with a different syrup each month—ranging from white miso in January to peppermint in July and black soybeans in December—prompting many visitors to return across the seasons. Other popular choices include melt-in-the-mouth warabi mochi, summer-perfect shaved ice, and sweetfish-shaped summer wagashi (waka-ayu), while their sugar-crusted castella sponge cake is widely chosen as a souvenir gift. The parlor has a total of 22 entirely non-smoking seats across table seats and tatami seating (zashiki), creating a calm space where guests can unwind while admiring the courtyard garden. Located within walking distance of Karasuma Station and Karasuma Oike Station, it is convenient for a sightseeing break; as reservations are not accepted, planning a visit with plenty of time is recommended.
