A few minutes' walk from Ebisu Station, Torinago Ebisu hangs its noren in a quiet back street, known as a branch of a chicken and duck restaurant lineage born in Tamba Fukuchiyama, Kyoto. Its signature dish is a duck sukiyaki made from nothing but duck meat and plenty of white scallion, following its own rule of dipping the duck for 15 seconds and the scallion for 5 seconds in the dashi. As you repeat the shabu-shabu dipping, the dashi builds up more and more flavor, and part of the joy is enjoying it fully down to the finishing zosui rice porridge or ramen. À la carte dishes are also well regarded, including the filling signature karaage served on the bone and fragrant seared duck sashimi, both pairing well with sake or wine. Of the 78 seats total, 48 are semi-private rooms with partitions, and the restaurant also offers horigotatsu and counter seating, with the quieter seats in the back favored for dates and dinner parties. The entire restaurant is non-smoking, and seats tend to fill up on weekends, so reservations are recommended.
