Located in a corner of the Tenjinbashisuji Shopping Street, Harukoma Minamiten is a popular neighborhood sushi restaurant where you can enjoy large, thick sushi topping (neta) at affordable prices. Orders follow a unique style where guests write the items they want on paper; at the counter, where chefs hand-press sushi one after another before your eyes, the room fills with the aroma of seared seafood and vibrant, energetic calls typical of Osaka. The fragrant seared eel, rich with sweet fat, is a signature offering, alongside firm sea bream, crunchy raw squid tentacles, and red miso soup enriched by a soft-boiled egg that soaks up the dashi (Japanese soup stock). Complementary side dishes like the subtly sweet, dashi-rich homemade rolled omelet are also well regarded. No reservations are accepted and lines can form, but an air-conditioned waiting area is provided, and some find it easier to enter than the main shop thanks to more seating. The entire restaurant is non-smoking and family-friendly, and for banquets, the 3rd-floor tatami seating (zashiki) can be reserved.
