Just behind Ohanabatake Station on the Chichibu Railway, Chintatsu Soba, marked by its standalone building exterior, is a soul food destination in Chichibu loved by locals and tourists alike since its founding in 1988. Its specialty soy sauce variety features a sesame-oil-scented clear soup generously piled with Fukaya scallions and Tsuchiotoko scallions, combined with pork belly and ultra-thin straight noodles into a unique bowl; the oil layer seals in the heat so it stays piping hot to the last bite. A miso flavor is also available, and you can enjoy changing the flavor as you eat with garlic chili peppers or spicy miso on the table. Even with an order of small, juicy Kurobuta pork gyoza, the bill stays under ¥1,000, and the fast service—arriving in just a few minutes after ordering—is also well-regarded. The Showa-retro interior decorated with celebrity autographs features counter seats as well as raised tatami platforms and tatami seating (zashiki), making it easy to visit alone or with family, with a steady stream of visitors stopping by between sightseeing trips to Chichibu Shrine and Hitsujiyama Park.
