Standing in a residential neighborhood just minutes on foot from Maruyama-Koen Station, Morihiko is a cafe renovated from a several-decade-old wooden home that has been operating since 1996. The subdued lighting and antique interior create an extraordinary ambience, reminiscent of wandering into a storybook forest, with second-floor seating reached by climbing a creaky wooden staircase. The signature offering is Mori no Shizuku, a medium-dark roast blend available only at this main shop, whose aromatic combination of Mocha and Mandheling beans, balancing bitterness and sweetness, pairs wonderfully with the moist gateau fromage. Featuring seasonal blends that change their names each season as well as seasonal tarts, every visit promises a different cup. The soft-spoken, attentive staff also has an established reputation, making it an ideal spot to open a book alone on your way back from visiting Hokkaido Shrine or strolling through Maruyama Park. The cafe offers 16 entirely non-smoking counter seats, and the coffee beans and drip packs you enjoyed can also be purchased to take home.
