Established in 1906, Yangzi Jiang Cuisine is a historic Chinese restaurant housed in an entire five-story building with a striking vermilion exterior in the secondhand book district of Jinbocho. Its signature dish is Goshiki Liangbanmian, devised in 1933, famous for thin noodles dressed in a sweet vinegar sauce and arranged to represent the four seasons of Mount Fuji: chashu for spring earth, cucumber for summer greenery, bamboo shoots for autumn fallen leaves, and agar for winter snow. The menu also offers distinctive dishes such as Shanghai-style pork yakisoba, made by double-frying the noodles and seasoned with salt and soy sauce without sauce, as well as Shishigashira curry featuring large meatballs. With a relaxed interior retaining Showa-era charm and spacious table seats, it accommodates everything from solo lunches to family gatherings. The restaurant is entirely non-smoking and offers private rooms for up to 4 guests, making it a dependable stop while browsing the secondhand bookstores.
