Right at the foot of Togetsukyo Bridge, Arashiyama Yoshimura hangs its noren at a standalone residence once owned by a Meiji-period Japanese painter. From the second-floor window and counter seats, guests can take in panoramic views of the bridge and the flowing Katsura River, an experience widely praised for combining dining with the changing beauty of the four seasons. Soba seeds sourced across Japan are stone-ground in-house, and the thin handmade noodles crafted by skilled artisans are celebrated for their firm bite and smooth finish. Multi-dish sets that let you sample a little of everything are popular, such as the Togetsu Set featuring half-portions of zaru soba and oroshi soba alongside a small tempura bowl, or the Tenzaru Set accompanied by thinly battered, crispy assorted tempura; the soba-seed chirimen rice accented with sansho pepper is another specialty. Attentive hospitality, such as serving sobayu right as you finish eating, leaves a lasting impression.
