Located just past the sugarcane fields and farm roads outside central Ishigaki City, Tofu no Higa is a tofu shop diner that has been running since 1957. The signature item is the freshly made yushi tofu set. The house way to enjoy it is to first taste the warm tofu with its fragrant soybean aroma on its own, then customize the flavor with table salt, soy sauce, homemade miso, or koregusu. The bukkake yushi tofu—topped over rice with grated yam and egg yolk—and the kariyushi set with tamagoyaki and miso-sautéed okara are also popular, accompanied by smooth soy milk made without nigari. Queues form even before the 06:30 opening, and guests appreciate the swift service, with tofu arriving within minutes of taking a seat. The wall-free open terrace has 28 spacious seats, is entirely non-smoking, and offers parking right in front, making it an ideal spot for an Ishigaki Island breakfast with family or friends.
