Founded in 1948, Bukkake Udon Furuichi Nakamise is widely known as the birthplace of bukkake udon. The local way to eat is pouring the sweet-savory, rich dashi (Japanese soup stock)—made from kelp, bonito flakes, and shiitake mushrooms—over chewy medium-thick noodles and mixing vigorously with tenkasu (tempura flakes), a quail egg, ginger if hot, or wasabi if cold. Niku Bukkake, featuring beef simmered in a sweet-savory sauce alongside kelp simmered in soy sauce, and the smooth-tasting Buttoro with grated yam are also popular, offering great satisfaction within ¥1,000. Bowls are served within minutes of ordering, and many patrons note that the line moves quickly even during peak times. The casual 130-seat interior is entirely non-smoking and includes counter seats. Located within walking distance of Kurashiki Station, it is ideal for a quick stop before or after strolling the Bikan Historical Quarter or between business errands.
