Established in 1717, Chomeiji Cherry Blossom Mochi is a long-standing teahouse in Mukojima that has preserved its tradition focused solely on Kanto-style sakura mochi, made by wrapping smooth red bean paste in a thinly baked wheat dough with 3 salted cherry leaves. The fragrant cherry blossom aroma drifts out the moment you open the box or paper wrapper. It is well known for the harmony between the saltiness of the leaves and the refined sweetness of the red bean paste, with patrons divided on whether to remove the leaves or enjoy them together with the mochi. Inside, an eat-in set served with strong sencha green tea is available, where wooden benches topped with red felt, raised tatami seating (zashiki), and traditional color woodblock prints recreate the atmosphere of an Edo-era teahouse. Thanks to its location along the Sumida River, many stop by during cherry blossom viewing or walks around Asakusa and Tokyo Skytree, and boxed sets such as 5-piece packs make appreciated souvenirs. The shop is entirely non-smoking with tatami seating (zashiki) only, wheelchair-accessible, and equipped with a 3-car parking area in front.
