Kirin, which carefully grills Kyoto Tanba black chicken, is a hideaway-style yakitori restaurant tucked in a basement just a short walk from Ebisu Station. The finely textured skewers range widely, from tsukune with a good balance of sauce and meat and a moist, fluffy texture, to crunchy gizzard and heart, and even the rare furisode cut. The grilled sesame tofu, crisp outside and gooey inside, is a beloved signature dish. For the finishing course, you can choose from oyakodon simmered in flavorful dashi, or chicken paitan ramen with black bamboo charcoal noodles. There is also a mizutaki course made with soup simmered for over 10 hours, and many say the prices are reasonable considering the Ebisu location. The restaurant has a counter overlooking the grill and a private room for 3–4 people, and the entire venue is non-smoking. The calm, adult atmosphere suits dates, business dinners, or a drink with a friend you haven't seen in a while.
