A few minutes' walk from Shinbashi Station, in a semi-basement space beneath the elevated tracks, Asahikawa Seikishikikkou Daikokuya Shinbashi serves raw lamb Jingisukan carrying on the taste of its famous Asahikawa origin restaurant. The meat has almost none of the gaminess typical of lamb, and its tender, juicy texture has earned repeat fans. Popular choices include the Daikoku Set, which lets you compare small portions of shoulder loin, leg, shoulder, and fillet, and the thick-cut, satisfying lamb chops. The rice, Yumepirika from Asahikawa cooked in a traditional iron pot, pairs well with the meat's sauce, and many guests ask for refills. When you arrive, staff grill the first slice for you as a demonstration, so first-time visitors can feel at ease. The interior is brighter and cleaner than the exterior might suggest, and the spacious 98-seat space is filled with the aroma of grilling meat and laughter. All seats are non-smoking, counter seats are available, and private hire is possible, making it suitable for anything from a quick drink after work to a party with friends.
