Cherished for its Edo-style eel steamed until tender enough to cut with chopsticks, Eel kappou, Oedo is a historic dining establishment founded in 1800. The unaju, skillfully grilled with dedication by experienced chefs, offers a sublime harmony with a refined, not overly sweet secret sauce. Beyond the unaju, the menu features the signature ikadaju—where whole eels are grilled without cutting and arranged across the lacquered box—as well as aromatic grilled eel liver and dashi (Japanese soup stock)-rich umaki (eel rolled in omelet), alongside a rich variety of accompaniments for drinks. Course meals that pair unaju with appetizers and sashimi are also widely appreciated, allowing guests to relax with sake while savoring the true spirit of Edo. The restaurant features booth seating partitioned with noren curtains as well as serene tatami seating (zashiki) private rooms furnished with chairs over tatami mats. Attentive hospitality from staff in traditional kimono provides comfort, beautifully enhancing upscale occasions such as important business entertaining or commemorative celebrations.
