Ebisu no Anbei is a shop that feels like it has brought Kochi's street stall culture directly to Ebisu, and its signature dish is stall gyoza, hand-wrapped one by one as each order comes in and pan-fried in an iron skillet. The ultra-thin wrapper is light and crisp like a fried gyoza, and the filling overflows with juicy, garlicky flavor; because they're bite-sized, it's said that you can keep eating endlessly and the beer never stops. You can also choose whether or not to include garlic, which is a nice touch. While waiting for the gyoza, there is a solid lineup of other dishes to enjoy, such as water-boiled gyoza dipped in a chicken-based soup, lightly flavored char siu, oden soaked in dashi, and crisp chikukyu (cucumber and fish cake). It's also popular to finish with a soy sauce ramen made with seafood and chicken dashi. The Showa-retro, stall-style interior centers around a 35-seat counter that's always lively, and the friendly, efficient service adds to the comfortable atmosphere. With dinner prices in the ¥1,000 range, it's easy to use for a drink after work or for a second party.
