Avranches Guesnay is a standalone patisserie just a short walk from Toei Kasuga Station, its crimson exterior catching the eye even from afar. The owner-pastry chef, who trained at renowned establishments in Normandy, France, named his signature cake "Reynard" after his mentor; it is a masterpiece featuring layers of fragrant caramel bitterness, orange acidity, and the rich depth of hazelnut. The most popular item is the Choux Caramel, combining crisp choux pastry with bittersweet caramel cream, which sometimes sells out early in the day. Innovative, jewel-like fresh cakes line the display—such as the Pistache, aromatic with Iranian pistachios, and seasonal tarts highlighting peaches or rhubarb—making the selection process a delight in itself. Handmade guimauves and crunchy baked sweets make excellent gifts, while the wood-toned interior illuminated by chandeliers evokes the feel of a Parisian street corner.
