On the 6th floor of a building, open the door and slip off your shoes to find Cha Cha Yudachi's modern Japanese tatami seating warmly lit with indirect lighting. It offers a hideaway-like calm that makes it hard to believe it is just a short walk from Shinjuku Station and Shinjuku-sanchome Station. The cuisine centers on Kyoto-style obanzai, renowned for dishes such as daily assorted home-style sides served a little at a time, dengaku made with Kyoto Gion nama-fu, deep-fried lotus root stuffed with spicy cod roe, and tender pork kakuni that melts apart. The meal finishes with freshly steamed donabe clay-pot rice shown to your table before being served, offering a comforting flavor rich with dashi. With private rooms, semi-private rooms, and horigotatsu (sunken table seating) available, the restaurant also features course meals with generous all-you-can-drink plans in the ¥5,000 range. The attentive service, catering to date nights, girls' gatherings, and anniversary surprises, is also well regarded.
