Just a short walk from Azabujuban Station, Shinpuku Saikan Azabujuban brings the cherished taste of a historic Kyoto establishment to Tokyo. The signature chuka soba catches the eye with its jet-black soy-sauce broth, yet on the palate the saltiness remains mild, allowing the deep savory richness of chicken and pork bones to gently spread and blend with medium-thin straight noodles, plenty of Kujo green onions, and thinly sliced pork belly chashu. The fried rice, similarly dyed dark with soy sauce seasoning, boasts an aromatic flavor and fluffy, separated grains; ordering it alongside chuka soba is a regular favorite. The seasoned interior and dimmer lighting create the comfortable ambiance of a Showa-era neighborhood Chinese diner, and the counter seating welcomes solo diners. While lines can form during lunch, turnover is swift, with many noting that food arrives quickly once seated. The second floor features a private room available by reservation only, complete with all-you-can-drink plans suitable for small gatherings.
