Luxurious moments over rich homemade sesame tofu and fine sake at a Showa-era U-shaped counter

  • Famous homemade sesame tofu
  • Thickly sliced fresh sashimi
  • Freshly fried homemade satsuma-age
  • Quiet solo drinks on the 1st floor
  • 2nd and 3rd floors suited for groups
  • Showa-era U-shaped counter seats
  • Historic tavern established in 1936

Boasting a history dating back to 1936, Kaneda is a historic izakaya right next to Jiyugaoka Station that has long been cherished by drink lovers. The 1st floor features a U-shaped counter filled with a pleasant sense of decorum, carrying on a distinct etiquette where guests take off their hats, keep their voices down, and quietly commune with their sake. The dishes served in a steady rhythm from the kitchen reflect refined kappo craftsmanship, among which the homemade sesame tofu stands out as an essential specialty for its concentrated flavor and springy texture. Thickly sliced fresh fish, freshly fried homemade satsuma-age, and other Japanese drinking snacks on the daily menu pair wonderfully with the cedar-infused Kiku-Masamune barrel sake. The 2nd and 3rd floors offer table seats that can be reserved, allowing guests to immerse themselves in chic tavern culture for around ¥4,000 in the evening.
