Privacy Policy

OFFICE MURO Inc. (the "Company") sets out this Privacy Policy (the "Policy") regarding the handling of information about users (the "Users") of "dishnote", a restaurant search and review service provided by the Company (the "Service").

1. Scope

This Policy applies to information the Company obtains in connection with use of the Service (including its website and apps). For the handling of information on external sites linked from the Service, please refer to the privacy policy of each site.

2. Information We Collect

The Company may collect the following information.

  • Information Users enter when registering: email address, password (stored as a hash), nickname, profile image, etc. When registering through an external service (such as Google or Apple), the identifier, email address, name and other data provided by that service.
  • Information Users post: reviews, ratings, dining records, photos (which may contain metadata such as the time taken and location), corrections or reports about restaurant information, and the content of inquiries.
  • Information collected automatically through use of the Service: IP address, browser type and language, operating system, device type, referring URL, pages viewed and when, cookies, advertising identifiers and other identifiers, and error information.
  • Location: when permitted in the device or browser settings, location information used to show restaurants near the User.

3. Purposes of Use

The Company uses the collected information for the following purposes.

  • Providing, maintaining and improving the Service and developing new features
  • Registration, identity verification, sign-in and account management
  • Publishing, displaying and managing User Content
  • Analyzing usage and improving content and search results
  • Delivering and displaying advertising and measuring its effectiveness
  • Measuring referrals to external sites (clicks, completed reservations, etc.)
  • Responding to inquiries and sending important notices
  • Responding to violations of the Terms of Service, preventing misuse and ensuring security
  • Creating and publishing statistical data in a form that does not identify individuals

4. Cookies and Similar Technologies

The Company uses cookies and similar technologies (local storage, pixel tags, device identifiers, etc.; collectively "Cookies") to improve convenience, understand usage and deliver advertising. Users can disable cookies in their browser settings, but some features of the Service (such as staying signed in) may then be unavailable.

5. Third-Party Advertising (Google AdSense)

  • The Company uses Google AdSense, a third-party advertising service. Third-party vendors, including Google, use Cookies to serve ads based on a User's prior visits to the Service or other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables Google and its partners to serve ads to Users based on their visits to the Service and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • Users may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings (https://www.google.com/settings/ads). Alternatively, Users can opt out of third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info (https://www.aboutads.info/choices/).
  • For how Google uses information in advertising, see "How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services" (https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites).
  • Users accessing from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland may be shown a message requesting consent to the use of Cookies for advertising, as required by law.

7. Affiliate Programs and External Sites

The Service contains links to external sites such as reservation sites and may participate in affiliate programs that pay the Company for referrals. Information on those external sites is handled under the privacy policy of each site's operator. To measure referrals, the Company may record information such as the time of a click and the destination.

8. Disclosure to Third Parties

The Company does not disclose Users' personal information to third parties except in the following cases.

  • With the User's consent
  • Where required by law
  • Where necessary to protect a person's life, body or property and it is difficult to obtain the person's consent
  • Where necessary to cooperate with a government body performing duties prescribed by law
  • Where the information is transferred as part of a business succession due to a merger, business transfer or similar event

User Content that a User posts with public visibility (including nickname and profile image) is published on the Service to the general public.

9. Service Providers and Transfers Outside Japan

To the extent necessary to provide the Service, the Company may entrust the handling of personal information to external service providers. The main services the Company uses include cloud infrastructure (Amazon Web Services), content and image delivery (Cloudflare), and analytics and advertising (Google). These providers' servers may be located outside Japan, including in the United States. The Company supervises its service providers as necessary and appropriate.

10. Security

The Company takes necessary and appropriate security measures, such as encrypting communications, controlling access and hashing passwords, to prevent leakage, loss or damage of the information it holds.

11. Retention

The Company retains personal information for as long as necessary to achieve the purposes of use or as required by law. When a Member withdraws, the Company deletes or anonymizes the registered information within a reasonable period, except for information that must be retained by law and User Content as described in Section 8.

12. Requests for Disclosure, Correction and Deletion

Users may request disclosure, correction, addition, deletion or suspension of use of their personal information held by the Company in accordance with the Act on the Protection of Personal Information of Japan. Please send requests to the contact in Section 15. The Company will verify the requester's identity and respond in accordance with the law.

13. Minors

Minors must obtain the consent of a parent or other legal guardian before using the Member features of the Service.

14. Changes to This Policy

The Company may change this Policy in response to changes in law or in the Service. The amended Policy takes effect when it is published on the Service. Material changes will be announced on the Service.
