Located a 1-minute walk from the west exit of Hankyu Juso Station, KIYASUSOHONPO HONTEN was founded in 1948. The aroma of dango grilling at the storefront naturally draws in passersby at this long-established Japanese confectionery shop right outside the station. The signature mitarashi dango are grilled over an open flame skewer by skewer upon order, and you can choose from 4 char levels: light, regular, extra, or heavily charred. The cylindrical shape ensures an aromatic toasted surface that generously catches the sweet and savory sauce infused with kelp dashi and brown sugar syrup. The shop is also well-regarded for large kintsuba packed full of red bean paste and sake manju scented with sake lees, which was once its signature item. Being able to buy from just 1 skewer at an affordable price is part of its charm. Enjoying them freshly grilled on the bench out front or having them quickly packed up as a souvenir are both great options. The shop is entirely non-smoking and barrier-free, making it easy to visit with children.
