A film of oil seals in the heat to the very end; savor meaty wonton noodles at a 9-seat counter in this established Iidabashi shop

  • Wonton noodles are the signature bowl
  • Piping hot soup to the very end
  • Popular large-cut chashu
  • Chashumen loaded with plenty of chashu
  • Easy to visit alone
  • Popular spot with daytime queues to expect
  • L-shaped counter with only 9 seats
  • Retro Showa-era atmosphere

Located just a few minutes on foot from Iidabashi Station on the first floor of an older commercial building, Chukasoba Takahashi is a long-standing shop that has preserved its unchanging bowl since 1991. The signature wonton noodles offer a delightful contrast between the smooth wrappers and the filling packed with rich, savory meat flavors, while a layer of oil on the surface acts as a lid to keep the soup piping hot until the very last bite. The large, melt-in-your-mouth chashu pork is also highly regarded; for those wanting a generous portion, chashumen is available, as is sara wonton served with vinegar soy sauce. Often described as a bowl that carries the lineage of Yotsuya's renowned shops, lines sometimes form before opening on weekday afternoons. The interior consists solely of an L-shaped 9-seat counter, where the contrast between the retro Showa atmosphere and the background country music leaves a memorable impression. Service is prompt, making it ideal for a solo meal. Cash only, completely non-smoking, and reservations are not accepted, so visiting outside peak hours is recommended.
