Just steps from Nihonbashi Station, Nihonbashi Yabukyu is a standalone townhouse soba shop founded in 1902 and continuing across 4 generations. Its signature dish is curry nanban soba, which lets you choose from 4 spice levels ranging from regular to extremely spicy, and 3 types of meat: chicken, Kurobuta pork, or Wagyu beef. Thick, spicy broth pairs with the rich aroma of thick-shaved bonito flakes, layering soba fragrance with savory curry depth. Dipping curry seiro—cold mori soba enjoyed with rich Japanese curry broth—and tsuyu zanmai soba, which lets you taste mori dipping sauce, sesame sauce, and curry broth all at once, are also popular. The soba is an aromatic batch made with a blend of Hokkaido and Honshu flour using traditional foot-kneading techniques. Spread across 1st to 3rd floors, the interior is steeped in history with ukiyo-e prints and wooden vessels, and the 3rd-floor horigotatsu (sunken table seating) private rooms are well suited for farewell parties and reunion gatherings. The shop accommodates all-you-can-drink courses and private hire, and is completely non-smoking. On weekdays, it also serves as a welcoming lunch spot for solo diners to drop by casually.
