Founded in 1961, Kawataro Nakasu Honten is the historic restaurant that popularized Yobuko's live squid sashimi, welcoming guests in Nakasu just steps from Kushida Shrine-mae Station. Squid swim in the large central live tank, making the counter seats the prime spot to watch the chefs skillfully prepare them right before you. The translucent flesh has a firm, crunchy texture; savoring it alternately with salt, lemon salt, and wasabi soy sauce is praised for bringing out ever-deepening sweetness. Once you finish, the tentacles and fins are turned into crisp tempura through "atozukuri," allowing you to enjoy a single squid in two delicious ways. The densely packed squid shumai and aromatic sesame mackerel (goma saba) are also renowned, backed by a dependable selection of sake and shochu. The entire restaurant is non-smoking and features private rooms accommodating from 2 to over 30 guests, making it ideal for business entertaining, dining gatherings, or crafting travel memories. With lunch live-sashimi set meals (teishoku) noted as a great value compared to dinner, you can enjoy the time-honored craft during both day and night.
