Located in a standalone building just steps from Atsuta-Jingu-Nishi Station, Owada is a long-established eel restaurant that attracts both locals and travelers seeking its signature hitsumabushi. The eel is prepared Kansai-style, grilled over charcoal without steaming, resulting in fragrant, crisp skin and tender, thick meat coated in a lightly sweet, clean tare sauce. Guests can enjoy hitsumabushi first as is, then with condiments (yakumi), and finally as ochazuke with hojicha poured from a teapot, offering a light, clean finish that defines the house style. The regular (nami), premium (jo), and deluxe (toku) tiers reflect the portion of eel, with both unadon and unaju praised for their great value relative to their high quality. Enjoying bottled beer or sake alongside charcoal-grilled eel liver sprinkled with sansho or dashi-rich umaki is another pleasure here. The entire restaurant features tatami seating (zashiki) with views of a courtyard pond where carp swim, allowing guests to relax in an atmosphere steeped in Showa nostalgia. With parking across the street, it is an ideal spot after visiting Atsuta Jingu or for dining with family.
