Atsuta Horaiken Jingu is a popular restaurant that attracts many visitors seeking its famous hitsumabushi, grilled to fragrant perfection over binchotan charcoal. The eel is crisp on the outside and tender within, coated in a secret sweet-and-savory sauce. Divided into four portions, it can be enjoyed plain, with Condiments (yakumi), and as chazuke with Dashi (Japanese soup stock) poured over it, allowing you to experience four evolving styles in order. À la carte dishes are also well regarded, including umaki—eel wrapped in piping-hot, dashi-infused rolled egg—and kimoyaki (grilled liver) prized for its springy texture and deep umami. Located near the south gate of Atsuta Jingu Shrine, the interior offers counter seats where solo diners can relax comfortably as well as seating suited for families. It is an ideal spot not only for dining alongside Atsuta Jingu visits and Nagoya sightseeing, but also for special celebratory meals when you want to treat yourself.
