Nestled among the shops of the Tsukiji Outer Market, Trattoria Tsukiji Paradiso greets visitors with blue and white tones, lemon-patterned tiles, and photographs of the Amalfi Coast, making you feel as though you have stepped into a southern Italian port town. The signature dish is the pescatora-style linguine with shellfish, piled high with several kinds of shellfish procured that day, thoroughly coating the pasta in rich dashi (Japanese soup stock)—a dish ordered by almost every guest. For the acqua pazza, in which whole fresh fish is simmered with tomatoes and herbs, staff de-bone and serve the fish right at your table, and soaking up the remaining sauce with freshly baked house-made focaccia is a classic treat. Many diners pair raw ham or fresh oysters with wines selected by the sommelier, and the cozy room with closely set tables is filled with the vibrant energy of a fishermen's diner. The entire restaurant is non-smoking, offering counter seats and terrace seating as well. Advance reservations are recommended for this popular eatery prone to long lines.
