Gion Kinana is a Japanese-style gelato specialty shop located on a discreet alleyway just off Hanamikoji, featuring Tamba black soybean kinako (roasted soybean flour) as its star ingredient. Their signature "Dekitate Kinana" is freshly churned kinako ice cream made on the spot, drawing many regulars for its silky-smooth melt, subtle sweetness, and gently unfolding roasted aroma. The menu offers a wide variety of kinako-centered desserts, such as "Kinana Japon"—a parfait layering kinako, black sesame, and mugwort ice creams with shiratama dango and candied chestnuts in astringent skin—as well as shaved ice generously drizzled with kuromitsu (black sugar syrup) and kinako.
