About a 10-minute walk from Shibuya Station, in a corner of Udagawacho, Sumibiyaki Yuji has kept its charcoal fire burning since 1991, earning long-standing support for its delicious offal dishes. The horumon is known for having absolutely no odor, with a springy texture and sweet fat, while the crunchy hatsu sashimi is served with sweet soy sauce, mustard, and green onion, enjoyed almost like sashimi. The menu also includes mild liver, motsu simmered until tender in a white miso base, and cuts such as giara, koprucham, and shibire, with condiments like salt, soy sauce, and grated daikon changed according to the cut to draw out its flavor. The well-worn interior filled with charcoal smoke creates a nostalgic Showa-era izakaya atmosphere, perfect for gathering noisily with friends. Dinner, including the rich curry to finish, starts affordably from around ¥6,000, and reservations for the two seatings at 16:00 and 18:00 are recommended in advance.
